Nikkor 18-105 VR

Last week I got a HeyCraig email telling me about an 18-105 VR lens for sale. I was really looking for an 18-200 VR, but I wouldn’t pass up a good deal on an 18-105.

I got it for $220. I’m pretty happy with the purchase.

Nuforce NE-7M Canalphones

Macworld led me to look into the Nuforce uDAC USB amp. Someone discussing that DAC+amp in a forum mentioned the NE-7M canalphones. I looked into them and they seem to be just what I’m looking for to replace my FutureSonics EM-3s. So I ordered a pair.

They arrived today and my initial impression is that they put out great sound. They certainly beat the Sennheiser CX300’s I’ve been getting by with lately.

I also wanted something with a mic, so I’m pretty excited to try these out on a phone call.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10

Last night I ordered a refurbished Lenovo IdeaPad S10 black netbook via a deal link from dealnews.com. The Dealnews copy was:

Lenovo Outlet offers its factory-refurbished

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 Intel Atom 1.6GHz 10.1″ Netbook

for $220. Apply coupon code “SAVE20” and it falls to $176. With free shipping, it’s the lowest total price we’ve seen for any IdeaPad S10 netbook by $32. Sales tax is added where applicable. This 2.42-lb. netbook features an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, 10.1″ 1024×576 LED-backlit widescreen LCD, 1GB RAM, 160GB 5400 rpm Serial ATA hard drive, 802.11g wireless, webcam, memory card reader, 3-cell battery, and Windows XP Home Edition. A 1-year Lenovo warranty applies. Coupon ends February 21.

Took about an hour to order it as outlet.lenovo.com’s SQL database was crashing with too many connections repeatedly. I suppose it was being killed by the traffic for this deal.

By this morning, that particular model was listed as out of stock on outlet.lenovo.com. Glad I persevered last night instead of waiting for the site traffic to slow down and order it today.

$186 (with ten bucks in there for sales tax) is a nice deal for this machine. The best I’d previously seen was about $250 (also refurbished and from the same source) and I passed since the machine’s build quality, fit and finish were disappointing for that price. But $176 + $10 sales tax was the right price for me. It’ll become my home and college machine of choice, I think.

The folks at the Apple Store replaced the keyboard and top case (the part your wrists rest on) of my MacBook Pro today. A key was sticking and I’d rubbed through the finish with my left wrist. It went perfectly smooth. It’s nice to have it freshened up.

Some people, you have to see them move and hear them talk to discover what a treasure they are. That’s Zooey Deschanel in the movie I’m watching, (500) Days of Summer.

I’m sick of listening to shuffled music on my iPhone. I’m going to go back to listening to entire albums — in original track order — for awhile.
